NSU Lambda Chi Alpha Holding Banquet at Spirit Bank Event Center
It has been 20 years of accomplishments and brotherhood for one Northeastern State University fraternity. On April 16, Lambda Chi Alpha's NSU chapter will celebrate its 20th anniversary in style.
“The Lambda Chi Alpha Anniversary Charter Banquet will be a formal banquet celebrating the 20th anniversary of the official creation of the Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at NSU,” said Brian Konieczny, Alumni Association president for the NSU chapter.
The banquet is an invitation only, private event for members of Lambda Chi Alpha and immediate family members. It begins at 7 p.m. on April 16, 2011 at the Spirit Event Center in Bixby.
“The purpose of the banquet is to celebrate our chapter's history, accomplishments and contributions, as well as bring together our alumni and active members in one central location to strengthen alumni support and the brotherhood of the fraternity,” said Konieczny.
The reunion and banquet will include a formal dinner, guest speakers and a slideshow of Lambda Chi Alpha's history on the NSU campus.
For more information about the Lambda Chi Alpha banquet, contact Brian Konieczny or Casey Dillard, Lambda Chi Alpha undergraduate chapter president.

HOYA, NSU Establish Wilma Mankiller Optometry Scholarship
HOYA Vision Care will donate $25,000 to Northeastern State University over the next five years to provide funding for the HOYA Vision Care Wilma Mankiller Scholarship for Native American Students in the Oklahoma College of Optometry.
The scholarship will first be offered for the 2011-12 academic year.
"We are thankful to HOYA for partnering with us in the education of our Native American students," said Dr. Doug Penisten, dean of NSUOCO.
"Without HOYA this scholarship wouldn't be possible. Their dedication to optometry education, especially at NSUOCO, is greatly appreciated."
Michael Elton, of HOYA, said the scholarship promotes scholarly diversity and optometric opportunities for an under-served minority.
"When breaking down the nation's optometry students by ethnicity, Native Americans barely register," he said. "Our long-standing relationship with NSU inspired us to get this scholarship together."
The NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry and HOYA supported naming the scholarship for the late Mankiller. Dr. Michelle Welch, associate dean of NSUOCO and director of clinical services, remembered the former principal chief of the Cherokee Nation as a positive, strong leader.
"Mankiller was one of the first to put a priority on providing health care for the tribe," Welch said. "We thank the family for allowing us to honor Wilma Mankiller by naming the scholarship for her."

NSU Foundation Donors, Scholarship Awards Increase
Thanks to the generosity of donors, records were set for number of donations, donors and scholarship funds distributed, Northeastern State University Foundation recently reported.
In 2010, a total of 2,299 donors made 5,938 contributions to the NSU Foundation amounting to $1,606,270. Peggy Glenn-Summitt, director of development and executive director of the Foundation, said the figures for donors and contributions were records and was appreciative of NSU's supporters.
"We definitely want to thank all our donors," she said. "The numbers show that we're actually broadening our base with more donors than ever before. That means that we're reaching more of the people we need to reach. We hope they continue their commitment to the university and share that commitment with other alumni and prospective donors."
Scholarship funds distributed to students also reached an historic high at $502,782 – making 2010 the first year NSU distributed more than $500,000 in Foundation scholarships.
There was also good news concerning the Foundation's total endowment, which is now just 1.7 percent below its historic high. "The endowment is nearly at its record 2007 level – where it was before the recession," Glenn-Summitt said.
