Green & White Golf Classic

If you are a golf superhero or just a weekend duffer, Northeastern State University wants you.

Golfers of all skill levels are invited to join the fun of the Green & White Golf Classic, sponsored by Liberty Mutual.

The event is Friday, Oct. 14 at Cherry Springs Golf Club in Tahlequah. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and play begins at 10. The golf tournament is one event designed for homecoming week Oct. 9-15.

“There will be a mix of holes with creative rules,” said Daniel Johnson, director of alumni services. “If we have the same weather we had last year, there will be no better place for NSU alumni to spend midday.”

Champagne Fashion Palooza

Want to see the latest fashions without traveling outside Tahlequah? Then make plans to gather ‘round the runway for Champagne Fashion Palooza, sponosored by Century 21 Wright Real Estate.

The inaugural event will be held Friday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Sen. Herb Rozell Ballroom of the University Center.

“This homecoming activity is open to anyone who wants to join us for a fashion show, complete with champagne and the latest trends,” said Erin Feller, Alumni Center database coordinator and organizer of the event. “Attendees will also be treated to lunch, and vendor tables will be set up for the show’s participants.”

Come Home to the Dome

Members of the campus, alumni and Tahlequah communities are invited to Come Home to the Dome, sponsored by Keetoowah Cherokee Casino.

Friday, Oct. 14 from 8 p.m. – midnight at the Indoor Practice Facility west of Doc Wadley Stadium is the ceremonial start to NSU’s superhero-themed 2011 homecoming weekend, “Truth, Justice and the Northeastern Way.”

“We will have food, beverages, a cash bar and a dance floor with a deejay,” said Rylee Ketcher, coordinator of athletic development and chair of the event. “Come Home to the Dome is a wonderful chance to visit with your old friends and meet new people.”

Northeastern State University RiverHawks will take the field at Doc Wadley Stadium Oct. 15 to cap off an eventful week of homecoming activities.

The football game is the highlight of a fun day of activities for students, alumni, faculty and the Tahlequah community.

Game day activities begin with the Athletic Association Breakfast at 8 a.m. in the University Center Rozell Ballroom. Current and former athletes and their guests may attend. Admission to the breakfast is $10. For more information contact the Athletic Department at (918) 444-3900 or visit the Athletics web site

At 10 a.m., the Homecoming Parade, sponosred by Tahlequah City Hospital, runs from downtown Tahlequah to Doc Wadley Stadium. Superhero-theme floats will be the order of the day to reflect the theme of the 2011 NSU homecoming week.

A number of events are scheduled after the parade. NSU men’s and women’s basketball will hold a free-throw shooting fundraiser in Jack Dobbins Field House. The entry fee is $50 and prizes are $1,000 for first place and $500 for second place. Entry deadline is Oct. 1. For more information contact Ted Vancuren at (918) 272-3305.

After the parade, interim president Martin Tadlock and his wife welcome lifetime members of the NSU Alumni Association at the Alumni Association Life Member Luncheon in the back yard of the president’s residence. Those wishing to attend the casual gathering are asked to RSVP with the Office of Alumni Services at (918) 458-2143 or alumni@nsuok.edu.

The Reunion Tailgate Party begins at 11 a.m. in the north parking lot of Doc Wadley Stadium. Attendees should bring their picnic gear – lawn chairs and tables, beverages, snacks, grilling food and a big appetite to celebrate with friends before the start of the homecoming football game.

What a better way to spend lunch than at the Alumni Association’s Green and White Network Cook-Out presented by Sodexo. Alumni are invited to this pre-game event under the green and white tent on the football practice field. This event begins at noon.

Highlighting the Saturday schedule is the 2 p.m. football game between NSU and Harding. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students ages 4 through high school. NSU students, staff and faculty are admitted free with a validated NSU identification card.

“Truth, Justice and the Northeastern Way” doesn’t end with the football game. At 7 p.m. the women’s soccer team takes to Dan F. DeLoache Field to face Central Oklahoma, completing the week’s homecoming events.
